OK so here’s an idea for you... ⠀ ⠀ So the way that I launched @smtofficial with $24 in the bank was because I was able to make the product by hand.⠀ ⠀ I was working full time when I first launched the brand and so during the week I’d take orders and then I’d buy the ingredients and fulfil them on the weekend. ⠀ Not that I knew it at the time but this was called a pre-sale model because I would sell the tea before I had any stock. ⠀ So I was always cashflow positive.⠀ ⠀ All I had was an Instagram account, no paid sales, no business background and we grew to $600,000 a month in 6 months.⠀ ⠀ So here’s the idea. If you don’t have a budget to start a brand, here’s what I’d do:⠀ ⠀ 1. Go on Pinterest (or Etsy) and look at DIY trends — DIY teas, face masks, essential oil blends, protein powder etc.⠀ 2. See which are being shared the most (or bought the most on Etsy). ⠀ 3. Make the product by hand. (And you might think people will just go make it themselves, trust me, they don’t — people prefer buying something ready made). ⠀ 4. Create an Instagram and start selling the product there. ⠀ 5. Create a website on @shopify (you get a 14 day free trial).⠀ 6. Grow your audience / reach by sending it to some micro influencers or do a tag to win giveaway (exactly formula for this is on our @heyinfluencers blog). ⠀ 7. REMEMBER, what YOU do NOT take The TiME to KNOW about what you just sold, REMEMBER, there always eXists someone will, who will scoop it up for, what you preceive as, getting a DECENT PRiCE BUT, THE 'REAL' SMART RESELLERS take that stuff to 'The Auction Houses' and, get OBSCENE PRiCES !!!
here is a good example of someone selling online Hit 100k 90 day total. One year ago I was finishing college and had 50k, one year later and I’m insanely past my expectations. For those common questions I usually get: I sell electronics and hard goods + shoes. I thrift most of my items. I’m a one man show and I run 40-60% per item in profit after fees shipping and COGS.
I moved back to the USA just over 3 years ago with husband and kids after 20 years abroad. Had nothing. Lived with parents on Medicaid and Wic until they kicked us out right before the pandemic. I was selling, but not to this level. I have a masters and my husband has is postdoc, but a cross the pond move is tough…Husband had just gotten his green card and had been employed for three months at this point. I’ve been working my butt off and my husband keeps me organized. Thank gd, a million times, I have reached a new high. Thank Gd for everything. I am eternally grateful and hopefully we can get on our feet sooner rather than later…. Gd willing. I normally wouldn’t share this, but if I can do it, anyone can! We are completely redoing our inventory system, shipping station, and office this month. 20 days ago, I used the bin system for 2500 items. Now I use a chronological system for storing inventory. All items neatly stacked in rows of boxes and numbered individually. Now I can find my items in seconds. Goal to be complete with this makeover by April 1, 2022 Whatever your goal is today, get after it! Have a good Monday.
