    15 MANIFESTATIONS OF FALSE PERSONALITY
(or Ego) THAT YOU ENCOUNTER EVERYDAY
    ~ David Gregg
    https://www.facebook.com/MichaelTeachings
In this list, I asked Michael to briefly comment on the ways false personality frequently reveals itself in terms other than the chief features
    or the negative poles.

This is an excerpt from a longer piece.

And the point of this list is not to make you feel guilty
about yourself or encourage you to point your finger at another.

For those on a spiritual path who strive to be more self-aware,
it simply serves as a reminder of how false personality
    (or the ego) creeps in.
    -
    1) BLAMING OTHERS FOR YOUR MISFORTUNES

Taking responsibility for your life is shattering to the ego.

Admitting your complicity in a choice that led to a negative outcome
is a devastating blow, and the defense most used by the wounded ego
    is to blame someone else.

This negative-based form of scape-goating is one of the hardest foibles
to overcome and a sure-fire way to entrench false personality even further.

    2) BELITTLING OTHERS TO ELEVATE STATUS

This weapon in the arsenal of false personality is a favorite
among ambition-crazed young souls, but all soul ages
can fall victim to its seductive allure.

Politics offers unlimited opportunities for this ego-based tactic,
and when a charismatic speaker sways larger groups,
    considerable damage is inflicted.

    3) USING GOSSIP TO DAMAGE REPUTATIONS

Similar in design to the previous tactic,
gossip is an age-old disease of the egoic consciousness,
an insidious weapon difficult to avoid and harder to repair.

Gossip works like a virus that spreads exponentially,
leaving a destructive wake that all began with the machinations of one person.

    4) BEING PREOCCUPIED WITH APPEARANCES OR POSITION IN LIFE

Another young soul vice and a distorted need for love and admiration.

Souls with this affliction often crash hard when the impermanence
of the desired things in life provide an unwelcome reality check.

A craving for status and higher position is also terribly exhausting,
as it becomes a full-time job.

    5) FEELING JEALOUS, ENVIOUS OR RESENTFUL

One of the universal expressions of false personality,
the issue here involves a soul almost sociopathic
in the desire to have its needs met.

If this person cannot be happy or prosperous in the way
    that matches their insatiable appetites,
they will consciously (or unconsciously) attempt to pour cold water
on the good fortune of someone else.

The underlying tenet here is an underdeveloped level of maturity,
    where childish outbursts

-- although not always seen on the surface

    -- are common.

    6) ABDICATION OF SELF-RESPONSIBILITY

This often arises when serving a corrupt master
and it is the preferred dodge for those that lose their humanity
    in service of the unscrupulous.

In this instance, all responsibility is shifted to another,
with defenses like "the devil made me do it."

Similar in theme to blaming others for misfortunes,
the difference here is that the abdicatee is usually cognizant
that a better choice could have been made.

Although in instances where false personality is extreme,
the individual may not know what incited their behavior.

    They were blind to it.

    7) EXPRESSIONS OF SELF-PITY

Feelings of self-pity act as a self-defeating barrier to those potential thoughts
or solutions that might bring relief when life takes a downward turn.

Forms of self-pity are even more egregious when all avenues of hope
are rerouted to one, inexorable destination
    -- the dead-end.

False personality is the clear winner here.

    8) SPEAKING TRUTH THAT CUTS OR WOUNDS

Hurtful speech often indicates a lack of empathy
or an ineptness at knowing the potential impact of the chosen words.

Tough love may be used as the rational excuse for this behavior,
but words with barbed edges have no place in situations
where the goal of a compassionate connection is desired.

    9) SEEKING THE PAIN OF OTHERS TO CREATE ONE'S HAPPINESS

This common expression of false personality manifests
when a personal desire becomes so strong
(some might even say monstrous) that obstacles
along the way are considered necessary collateral damage.

Any guilt that arises from inflicting pain on another gets immediately
countered with logical reasons that justify the action taken.

Another twist on this theme is when the pain of others
is sought as a form of revenge.

    10) SELF-IMPORTANCE In ALL GUISES

Arrogance is the affliction behind most examples of self-importance
    and entitlement.

Garden-variety delusions of grandeur often inflate
the ego's impressions of its talents and skills,
forever comparing itself to others in a delusional
"mirror, mirror on the wall" fashion
that leaves all perceptions blind to the abilities
    and worth of other people.

    11) SEEKING APPLAUSE OR APPROVAL

This may not be an expression of ego if the intention
is to seek valuable feedback on something.

The ego enters when the need for attention becomes neurotic
and a desperate cry for love.

Excessive neediness often points to childhood insecurities
    that were never addressed.

    12) REACTING PREDICTABLY TO EXPERIENCES OF PAIN
    OR PLEASURE

This usually indicates a penchant for habitual responses to life
where essence contact is cut-off, and the emotional body takes over,
reacting to stimuli as if on autopilot.

    Common irritants with habitual responses
might include getting stuck in traffic,
waiting in a long line, or feeling insulted.

The reaction is often predictable: impatience sets in, the blood boils,
the ego is ready to brawl.

    13) THINKING YOU ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS

In this classic manifestation of false personality,
comparisons are made, sometimes at a rapid pace,
of how the observer measures up against others.

This expression of ego both sizes up and tears down the shortcomings
perceived in those of similar aptitudes.

    14) SEXUAL MISCONDUCT

This distortion of an otherwise positive physical plane experience
occurs when a sexual desire of an individual
or group impedes the choice of another.

The well-known criminal offenses are self-evident
but using sex as a means to dominate, demean,
or manipulate is all too common in your world
and a direct expression of false personality.

This includes all forms of sexual deviancy.

Sexual acts driven by instinctive centered motives bereft
of any desire to seek essence contact could be considered
a missed opportunity for a more significant connection with another.

    15) EVERYDAY NEGATIVE EMOTIONS

The abundance of negative emotions that accost people
throughout the day aptly illustrates the persuasive nature
    of false personality.

Negative emotions cannot happen without this influence.

This shift from states of higher consciousness to lower
is so seamless that the transition is accepted as a normal mode
    of behavior.

If positive change is desired, however, learning to observe
the existence of this daily parade of negative emotions
is a good place to start.
