    GUNNER

    back from WW2 GUNNER
    was raised and slept under my uncles anti- aircraft gun.

    The gun crew shared their rations to feed him.

    By the time he was 18 months old my uncle
    said he would stand up and look at the sky.

    If he layed back down they new all was ok.

    If he growled and put his hackles up they got at the ready.

    He new the sound of the German aircraft
    and my uncle said he never got it wrong.

    He said gunner was better than any early warning system.

    I’m probably the only one left in the family
    that knows that story now so I thought I’d tell it
    before it’s lost forever like many story’s must be from that time.

I only remembered the story when we found the picture of him. If you remember anything about him would you let me know please and I’ll add it to the story.       Robert Chambers There used to be an old anti-aircraft gun mounting point up at the back end of the allotments at the end of Newtown road in Little Irchester. Not sure if that's still there, it was a lot of concrete and a silver-steel attachment point that was cylindrical supposedly so you could pivot the gun around.

        Roy Green Ian, OK, I just wondered if he served in the Middle East, my Dad was an Ack Ack gunner, at most of the major battles there but he knew about the story your uncle told, maybe a lot of the guys at barracks had heard the story, it is a great one :)

      Robert Chambers There used to be an old anti-aircraft gun mounting point up at the back end of the allotments at the end of Newtown road in Little Irchester. Not sure if that's still there, it was a lot of concrete and a silver-steel attachment point that was cylindrical supposedly so you could pivot the gun around.

        Roy Green Ian, OK, I just wondered if he served in the Middle East, my Dad was an Ack Ack gunner, at most of the major battles there but he knew about the story your uncle told, maybe a lot of the guys at barracks had heard the story, it is a great one :)

      Robert Chambers There used to be an old anti-aircraft gun mounting point up at the back end of the allotments at the end of Newtown road in Little Irchester. Not sure if that's still there, it was a lot of concrete and a silver-steel attachment point that was cylindrical supposedly so you could pivot the gun around.

      Robert Chambers There used to be an old anti-aircraft gun mounting point up at the back end of the allotments at the end of Newtown road in Little Irchester. Not sure if that's still there, it was a lot of concrete and a silver-steel attachment point that was cylindrical supposedly so you could pivot the gun around.

      Roy Green Ian Brown, Where was your uncle during the WW ll? I was told a very similar story to this by my father, he was Royal Artillery on Anti Aircraft guns.

        Ian Brown Roy Green sorry only just read your msg I’ve had hundreds. Like Mavis said he was royal artillery anti- aircraft. I’m sure he served down on the south coast but I’m not hundred percent sure.

      • Roy Green Ian, OK, I just wondered if he served in the Middle East, my Dad was an Ack Ack gunner, at most of the major battles there but he knew about the story your uncle told, maybe a lot of the guys at barracks had heard the story, it is a great one :)
