Uriah Abraham Helmer and wife Frances Mary Hutt, Grandson of Loyalist KRRNY John Helmer, is pictured.

They were Gr. Grandparents of my Paternal Grandmother Caroline Frances (Helmer) Tweney.

Uriah's two brothers John and Josiah, left Williamsburg, going south to enlist in the US Civil War,
as did thousands of other Canadians, who served on both sides of the conflict.

John and Josiah enlisted in the 121st New York Regiment.

John the elder of the two, was in the first wave, of the famous Upton's Charge,
May 10, 1864, in the battle at Spotsylvania Courthouse, in Virginia.

John was severely wounded and died,
in a Fredericksburg Virginia hospital two weeks later May 24, 1864.

Josiah would be captured as a POW and released at wars end, returning to Canada.
