    Bill Johnston (1915 to 9 Sept. 2003)
Bill Johnston was held in captivity in Stalag 383, a German POW Camp housing over five thousand, situated in Hohenfels, Bavaria.
Over a period of 3 years, from 1942 - 1945, ten Allied Prisoners-of-War, Non-Commissioned Officers, including Bill, living in dire conditions, often close to starvation most of the time, formed a small group to study the "meaning of life".
Eventually higher states of consciousness were experienced, when Bill compiled a diary of the knowledge, which manifested during their meetings.
Bill painted a few beautiful pictures to demonstrate some of the knowledge, and wrote a book during and many poems during the 1980's.
The CD ROM contains Bill's extensive writing, numerous poems and his notes taken in the camp, which can be opened using MS Word; his pictures using most image programs.

The extracts in Bill's manuscript, were received over a period of 3 years, 1942 - 1945, by a small group of Allied Prisoners-of-War, Non-Commissioned Officers, during their Captivity at Stalag 383, a POW Camp, Hohenfels, Bavaria
The photograph of the prison camp below, that Bill brought home at the end of the war, shows the cramped conditions under which 5000 captives were kept.

    INTRODUCTION.

    ONCE A MEDIUM

The sad thing about writing is that it is always done with or from hindsight. Any writing, fiction or non-fiction, is conditioned by the mind of the author; a mind that can roam backwards over experience, but never forwards. Science fiction is no exception. Visions of the future, Orwellian or Wellsian spring from knowledge of the past, not knowledge of the future. For example, the year 1984 didn't match the Orwellian forecast; fortunately. Some aspects of the real 1984 may have been worse than Orwell's vision, but many other aspects were better. In fictional writing, particularly, one can see the author's portrayal of events as 'moulded'. Intensified, diminished, dramatised, censored. This, of course, is what writing fiction is about.
    But what about reality?
Logically, the greatest writers should be newspaper reporters. Oh, yes, they also intensify, diminish, dramatise, censor -more so, perhaps, than any writer of fiction; but they write, dictate, at the time immediately after the events they report. And this must cut out a tremendous amount of distortion. The library shelves are packed with novels wherein the author portrays happenings that have been 'moulded.' to fit the writers ' desire; to please the reader. The tale is told as the author wishes it had happened; or, more usually, purely as a product of the author's imagination. Again, this is authorship, I know; but I would not wish to be such an author. The extreme of such writing must be the romantic novel; an art form which has always left me cold, but which has made fortunes for many authors fortunate enough to be able to churn out such romantic stories.
    But what about reality?
I ask myself - knowing my humanity and fallibility - and knowing that I also live with a mind conditioned by past experience right up to NOW, - is it possible to set down reality in print? Has it been done? I think not.
If one could set down simple and true reality, unvarnished and unchanged, would it be merely boring, like a textbook? Disgusting and repulsive, as life can so often be? Sad, funny, exhilarating? Or all of these and much more?
Who'd want to read it, anyway, when one is living it? So to try and set down true reality is attempting the impossible. The next best thing must be to examine the aspects of life that most confound us. Which, for me, means firstly - Time.
One of the greatest human tragedies is Time. The fact of always being at the spot marked 'Now'. The irrevocable past closes behind us as we draw each breath. The unpredictable and unavoidable future dangles before each of us, like multitudes of carrots before donkeys. And we live our lives mostly on the basis of faith in the future. We can hope for the best. We can fear the worst. But whatever is coming will come, that's for sure. The moving finger never stops writing. It is generally regarded as a blessing, this automatic closure of the past behind us. What has gone before may influence us now, and may affect our future living. The lingering effects of old causes permeate through Time like ghostly tentacles reaching out to embrace us as we move forward; but nothing concrete can come back; physically, the past is dead. All the people of yesterday are dead and gone, even though the places they inhabited remain. Why, you can go on an archaeological dig and find their remains, and the bits and pieces of their old daily living.
And this, to my mind, is tragic.
The older one gets, I suppose, the more frequently and strongly one is assailed by nostalgic memories of other days. For me, this extends farther back than just painting rosy pictures of one's personal past. The human mind is adept at discarding the painful and retaining anything that boosts the ego. Ask almost anyone about the blackest period of their past. The world may have been shaking to the tread of invading armies, the air vibrant with bombing planes, the crematoria chimneys belching their smoke, yet still the individual will be able to recall to you the treasured little memories of personal events during that period, even though it were only a kind word from a fellow human.
If a man was buried to the chin in mud, and the mud receded an inch, the recession would swiftly be attributed to divine intervention, and become a treasured recollection. The remaining five feet or so of mud would be swiftly relegated to the background of memory. The inch of respite is - naturally - all that matters.
This oyster-like process goes on in all of us, continually. The piece of grit becomes a pearl as time passes.
As earlier remarked about authorship, past personal experience is often warped and embroidered. We make the facts over and re-present them to ourselves, as we would prefer them to have been. We remember the soft kiss and forget the sharp blow. Or, if we cannot forget, we emphasise the one and diminish the other.
This process is directly due to the pressures of Time. Our brains - or memories - have not the capacity to remember every second of every hour of every day of every year of the past; so we condense or embroider to make it fit; to keep it manageable. It is significant that under hypnosis almost anything, from any period of a lifetime, can be remembered. Everything is recorded in us, somewhere, and the records are accessible to us if we know how.
This I find is a consolation in the face of fleeting Time; which, in self-defence, we measure in seconds, hours, and days.
The space-time puzzle has always fascinated me; right from boyhood I have always been interested in the strange limitations of Space and the unexplored ramifications of Time.
There are many - especially in this age of the Russian/American Space Race - whose interest in Space is directed wholly to expansion and extension: that is, the 'conquest' of Space. On the other hand, apart from the fact that I lack the brains, the interest, the dollars or roubles necessary to explore Space, I have always considered that the mystery of TIME is the greatest challenge to Human. The solving of this riddle seems to have been discarded as an impossibility, in spite of Einstein's theorising. The dawn of the Atomic Age must carry most of the blame.
Yet it seems a short-sighted policy, this mad rush to conquer Space. We know that to cover Space takes time, - so much time that our lives are not long enough to cover some of the distances envisaged. But Suppose Time could be altered, or modified. Suppose we could break the Time barrier as we can break the sound barrier? What a short cut to the stars that might be.' As a boy it always enthralled me to stand in some particular spot, for example, a location where murder had been committed, and consider the strange fact that I was occupying exactly the same little patch of Space as had the murderer or his victim.
Yet, except imaginatively, there was no link of any kind between them and myself; or between them and anyone else who had stood there since, or before the murder. Yet there was also the strange fact that certain spots are often the scenes of repetitive crimes or other happenings. It is, we are told, merely coincidence if three or four persons at different times commit murder or suicide on the same spot.
I learned that, as I stood in the footprints of the murderer, unless one had been previously informed that murder had taken place there, no knowledge of the event could be gained by merely occupying the same spot, unless one was truly and exceptionally psychic. Anything I felt could have been reasonably attributed to imagination due to foreknowledge that a crime had been committed there. Yet there had been violent emotions here, passions turbulent enough to invoke murder. Where had it all gone? This was the very spot where it happened.
The confusing factor was as it still is, Time.
If we could conquer Time as we confidently expect to conquer Space, many fascinating problems would be solved; possibly all problems.
I have thought much about this puzzle, without progressing as far as the many persons better qualified to do so. If there is a definite Space-Time relationship, the occupants of any one spot throughout the ages can only co-exist in Time, I thought, since we can see people come and go to and from the spot concerned. That is, Time, plus another factor that we can call 'density' limit Space.
We are already familiar with the condition of weightlessness experienced by astronauts, away from Earth, beyond the pull of gravity, we become weightless. Newton wouldn't have had much fun with his apple out there; though he might well have reached the same conclusion from an opposite. approach. Weightless we may become, but the human astronaut's body is no less dense. It is still all there, - blood, bone, and muscle. Yet a ghost -the shade of my murderers victim, for example - has weightlessness within the pull of gravity, - and practically no density. Because he or it is outside of human Time, not Space.
This sort of theorising falls flat if you do not believe in ghosts, or in a serial existence that resembles a tiny spotlight moving along an interminable strip of film for each one of us. The shades may still be there; but the farther away from them we travel in Time, the more their images fade, become less and less dense, and finally vanish.
Space is much less important in this study than Time. Only here and Now in Time can we know and recognise each other as living flesh and blood. And 'here and now' covers the whole span of our mortal existence. The recognition lasts as long as we live. Indeed, there is a considerable overlap, we can recognise the seed, the embryo; we can recognise the corpse, before burial or cremation removes it from our sight. A mere scrap of bone can tell us that here, long since, were living creatures such as ourselves.
Each second, as we move through Time, our world moves with us. Everything we know is travelling with us through Time; but Space remains fairly constant for us, as for our ancestors and our descendants.
There is a funny rhyme about the person who went so fast that he met himself coming back. The conquest of Space brings the thought that such a rhyme might not be so nonsensical. Spacecraft will move from planet to planet eventually; but they will only be moving around in one small solar system. Beyond lies the Space, which may never be conquered, unless we solve the problem of Time first. We literally need to be able to meet ourselves coming back before we can penetrate into other solar systems. We could not live long enough to cover some of the distances involved.
Coming back to our little speck of this Universe, we use Time more instinctively than we use Space. We hide in Time as much as in Space. Time is as vital to us as the air we breathe. We do live serially, or murder could not remain undetected for one second. All our yesterdays would be laid out behind us for all to see; all our tomorrows lie exposed before us. We know that the forward movement (for which we invented Time as a measure) is a fact. Each tick of the clock closes the past behind us, enlarging the past by that one second, diminishing our future by that one second. 'Without our clocks we might well believe, as presumably most less-evolved life forms on earth believe, that there is no past or future, only the immediate present, the moment in which we live. Who knows about the next moment until it arrives?
But that is foolish digression. We know that tomorrow will come for most of us. We have a life expectation, in spite of the nuclear age. We believe in our serial life. We know that every image we project, and any camera will prove that we project an image, is fading and receding as we move forward through today and into tomorrow. Only the immediate present is concrete reality to our sensibilities, even though our peculiar human understanding permits us to mentally recognise the reality of time past and time still to come.
History books, films, pictures, carvings, prove to us that all Time, particularly past Time, is real and factual. Yesterday was real enough to those who lived yesterday, just as we believe in the reality of the future for our children.
Therefore it seems reasonable to suppose that we humans are only limited in our appreciation of Time by our physical faculties, which are geared by Nature to embrace primarily the present. Such faculties are dependent on flesh, blood, brain, instinct, even education and reasoning. power. All of which make up our 'Life'.
And what happens when we die?
These limiting faculties are removed, or halted.
If we are no more than highly developed machines.., with the heart as engine and the stomach as a fuel tank, death is the end. Extinction complete.
But we also have a brain. If the brain is an interpreting machine for a spiritual something, and all Man's artistic works suggest that this is so, that spiritual something will go on working, whether one or a billion human machines stop working.
So, in effect, any attempt to solve the Time-puzzle brings us face to face with investigation into Death and beyond. Only Space-Time separates the dead from the living.
We are insulated and isolated only by the living flesh and brain. The human brain cannot think very far into the future. It can imagine. It can give us an H.G.Wells. But it cannot see very far forward or remember very far back. It is significant that the backward-remembering brain, under hypnosis, can come up with details of previous existences, if one accepts such accounts as 'The Search for Bridey Murphy'. And in the opposite direction we may point to such seers as Nostradamus. But these are matters for personal belief.
Maybe we do not just live serially, but have the privilege of appearing in many productions, even if they do not all run to full-length.

    ****THE LESSON OF MULTIPLICITY*****
    Aug. 2nd 1944.
MULTIPLICITY OF WORLDS IN THE UNIVERSE.
Spiritual Teachings - Received in a German Prison Camp "Hohenfels" Bavaria. STALAG 383.
    (World War II)

    MULTIPLICITY, painting by Bill Johnston"[IMG]
Greetings. - I ask you to remain in one place until contrary orders are given. Thank you. - Write and tell this to My friends that they may work well. The time has come for a further broadening of your Spiritual Vision. The seed was sown in your minds concerning The Multiplicity of Worlds in your Universe, and for reasons not of your grasping, that seed was left to itself. This seed you were told to ignore it.
The Farmer may ignore a sown seed, but the seed grows nevertheless. That seed was the foundation for My words now, which shall grow in your hearts as trees of Knowledge. Since that implantation of seed you have been advised to conform to your utmost, to the Universal Patterns. The advice should have been that you should knowingly conform - for consciously or unconsciously you do inevitably conform according to The Law. In your cases especially, however, consciousness of conformity is desirable, and is even essential, since I am with you. What is this Conformity of which I speak? Hear Me.
The most generally-accepted conception of Man is that given by Christ and St. Paul, which has a parallel in many religions which is that man has a Spiritual Body and a Material Body of Flesh and Blood. Man is TWO IN ONE - only separated at Physical Death. I tell you that you have MORE THAN TWO BODIES. Modern Spiritualists approached fact when they recognised three bodies. EARTH BODY - ASTRAL BODY and the SPIRITUAL BODY OR ETHEREAL BODY.
But even these "moderns" were too conservative, too moderate, and too cautious - they went halfway and stopped. I recognise no half measure. I see the core of fact - The Eternal reality which is of God and is True.
There are humans with only one body, a body of flesh and blood. You shall know them. They savour only material things of Earth. Jesus of Palestine knew them - Jesus who could leave one body hanging on the Cross whilst another body approached a world beyond Earth. Jesus who could walk on land and walk on water at one time. Jesus who separated Himself to reveal the bodies of Moses and Elias, from within Him. - Jesus who so often could be in places several at one time, and whose ability lies recorded for you Earth.
Jesus spoke of the one's because He knew them. They live in and solely for Earth, knowing no other Worlds. Being blind to Spirit, for they are not of Spirit, and have no Spirit. For them there is one Life and no conversion. But they are few, for them Earth Life is single and ends at the death of the Physical.
The time shall come when all those who have Spirit shall openly war against those without Spirit. Your Earth is far from fully cleansed. Even such wars as those you know are between the Have-nots of Spirit. These are the blind guides who have Eternally and triumphantly led, and swayed, the one's of Spirit. Jesus heralded a war, I prophesied and knew. He was laughed to scorn. But My time is close at hand. Truth shall raise the Spirit and oust blind guides from their false leadership. No material weapons shall avail against the Spiritual armour of Truth. My war is already won, and yet is to be fought. Truth is full of such strange paradoxes. Eternal Life Of Spirit is not for All. If eternal life was a natural inheritance, common to all, regardless of their ability to understand it - how then would Jesus offer a Way, a Key, a gift to Eternal Life ~ How offer a Man what he has already ~ Eternal Life is obtainable, not inevitable.
Have I not led you back from going astray that you might obtain your lives? I told you that no Soul is lost - That is true - Even a Soul is of matter and of life, whether as man, or bird, or beast, or flower, or dust, or other form of life unknown to you. Nothing is lost, in strict accuracy it is true to say that nothing dies, but all things change, and some erstwhile human souls may never regain human form after changing therefrom. I told you also that, contrary to losing backward souls (spirits) we strive to halt the evil soul which tries to force entry to our domains. All this should show you how less chaotic are these outer realms than you had imagined.
Not one iota of life more, than that allowed by Law is allowed to leave one sphere to enter another. All change must be according to Law. Souls stay or go to their allotted place. All is ordained (ordered), all is ordered by God.
    Only men know disorder
Before I convey further understanding of Conformity to Universal Patterns, and of Man's Multiple structure, hear these words of your own scriptures. The Light shineth in Darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth not.
What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own Soul?
    Or
What shall a man give in exchange for his Soul? and lastly, For the Earth Bringeth forth fruit of Herself.
    First the Blade.
    Then the Ear.
After that the full corn in the Ear.
But when the Fruit is brought forth, immediately He putteth in the Sickle -Because the Harvest is cometh.
What a plain and glorious lesson? And yet unknown to man. Hear and understand. The words were spoken to illustrate the way of human majority.
Consciousness of flesh comes first- this is the Blade.
Consciousness of Soul - comes next - this is the Ear.
Consciousness of Spirit and it's Multiplicity comes then - this is the Full Corn in the Ear.
And when a man gains this triple consciousness, that man is usually ripe for his change from Earth life, the sickle reaps the Harvest. The Harvest is gathered, and put to Higher use elsewhere. Does the Miller build his mill on the Cornfield? Do shopkeepers sell bread on the cornfield? Do buyers buy, and eaters become filled, where the corn has just been harvested? There you see the Growth of Spirit, and man's allotted end on Earth, and his rise to Higher Spheres. And weeds are cast out of the corn.
There are men who, according to Law, attain early to this triple consciousness and a multiplicity of bodies become known to them. Of such are the Christ's and their kindred.
To make understanding easy, since you each possess divisible spirit, and are therefore within the demands of the Law, I will speak of these bodies in terms (of) as nearly akin to the material as possible - terms of density.
The flesh and blood of earth is the most dense - even in the humorous as well as the serious meaning.
The Soul is the next less dense body - or the next highest body -or the secondary body - which has been seen by men to separate from flesh.
The remaining bodies are less and less dense according to spiritual refinement.
All bodies are spiritual, even flesh.
    Without spirit is without Life.

A stone if animated by Mind - would not see the flesh of man as flesh - to the stone you would be an invisible spirit. I can speak no more plainly at this time. I must conform to your language. I speak for All.
Take thoughts, I shall aid you to understand.
Call on My Name and pray God and you shall see all plainly - that I now speak in stilted tongue. Earth humans move in a number of bodies from Paul's two, to an indefinite number of interwoven inter penetrable bodies.
Remember the "outer brick" of which you were told. According to the extent of each body's spiritual development is it's spiritual journeying measured. To the sphere state realm, to which a body has entry, so is that body a microcosm of that sphere.
Now when you view the millions of differences among human souls you will see how many grades of existence, how many regions of dwellings, there must be - then Love one another as you were commanded, for you know not when you shall meet again.
A man may be a multiple microcosm - flesh to earth, Soul to a close outer sphere - spirit to world upon world - fitted to receive it. The human task is to know first, not oneself but One selves. To let the most able rule within, to make of the less able, good servants, eager to learn, the least able is usually, but not always, the most dense - flesh -DENSE, a more fitting word than you have yet realised. Thus the rule of Spirit is more often worthy than the rule of Flesh.
In such as My Brother, there was One.
The number of bodies is dependent upon Mind. MIND - Interpretation of Thought - Growth of Understanding - Application of Knowledge in Good Works. These dictate the number of bodies for full expression of spirit to a human entity. Just as density differs in the planetary satellites of any One Sun, so do the body densities differ in the satellites of any One division of Spirit in a human frame? "DENSITY" is the nearest approach possible to a physical explanation for this spiritual actuality. True explanation is of Spirit, beyond the physical conception of man, and as you have learned, all things of Spirit are as material as the dense matter known to the human senses. But to fully and properly express the spiritual, these are required:
Spiritual environment - Spiritual Bestowal and Spiritual Reception.
As before, yet more than ever now, I am like a bird trying to explain itself to a fish, or like a man trying to make a small beetle understand what is a Beetle, and how it may become a man. The Spirit you knew as Sister Johanna - she would love My similes, for she loves all life.
Mark well. Not only Earth contains birds and fishes for the delight of her kind.
It will be hard for you to convince many. I hope - it is My task to work and hope - that you will understand. A man may be like a single empty box or again he may be like one of the "trick parcels" you have seen, as children. Box within Box, and again, within. And of these bodies, when the full consciousness of them is finally attained, seldom on Earth, you will see that one may function here, one there, one elsewhere - ALL AT THE ONE TIME.
Remember manifested spirits of living persons. Recall dreams of unearthly and yet familiar scenes. Often in dreams men are conscious of watching themselves enact certain happenings. I tell you that One-Self may easily watch several other "Selves" in one brief dream or vision.
Look at the changes of mood and personal expression in each one of you. Read of the good man who suddenly runs amok and commits foul crimes. Observe the backward man who reforms. All these things occur at the dictates of other selves manifesting and influencing from within. Ask the Psychologist of cases where the individual personality has apparently split, and manifested through the outer flesh, with each so-called portion claiming personal identity. The claims are often true, but you may discount the poor unhinged Soul which claims to be a Napoleon or a Hitler, and so on -you understand - You will also bear in mind that flesh receives education and upbringing - whilst the inner-bodies are often mere passengers or dormant, having to seek their own advancement in understanding whilst the outer-body sleeps. Co-operation and help between the outer and the inner-bodies brings peace - harmony - and swift advance. Conflict brings many sad states, as you have seen. In the cases of dissociated personalities, which I have mentioned, the differing mind entities - try to force expression through the single flesh body, instead of working through the bodies, which are rightly theirs.
Bodies which dwell within the flesh body and which can divide separate, and work individually in their own Spheres. Each can share with one another, all knowledge acquired by each, and each, sadly can quarrel, sulk, be lazy, and do all that the outer body can do at the dictates of mind.
You will see that a more refined, lighter or less dense body, when forcing control, will have difficulty in manipulating correctly and perfectly the outer body of Earth flesh. Your medical men and psychiatrists will verify that this is commonly seen when a case of dissociated, or what we call frictional-multiple personality, is treated, strange positions are taken up by the flesh body, with difficulty in reverting to normal movement.
There is inability to use correctly material things and so on. Even convulsions, inertia, full lack of control - IT IS OBVIOUS. Remember such recorded manifestations as that with Miss Florence Cook, where not one, but more than one, whole Spirit body manifested beside the flesh body. Outside help by other spirits is required to clothe the separated bodies in temporary garments akin to flesh. It is possible for many, but seldom visible to your present understanding.
We find few humans who can perfectly co-operate with their more advanced fellows in Spirit, to bring such phenomena to a more common state of availability to men. It would be a wonderful and useful thing made commonly available but Earth-dwellers have a great distance yet to travel before the understanding of spirit becomes common to the majority of men on Earth.
You who write, and you to whom I address My message, you are forerunners of the future. This body through which I speak contains incarnations of other days. The prophets of the East have come, and are gone, and now you will hear the first of the great western prophets. I have seen how you shuddered when men referred to -- great biblical names as "mediums" - you rightly feel it is belittlement. All men to some degree are mediums.
Not all have the word, which is truth.
Then call not this body "medium" - he and others among you -and pray God, all of you - shall transcend mediums. Truly you hear a prophet.
To resume, remember John Taylor, who told you that he stood in two places at one time - I have placed many such examples and illustrations in your paths. ADAPT YOUR KNOWLEDGE GRADUALLY. Men have fallen into error, they think that simplicity abounds, if belief is restricted to two bodies.
How much simpler is the multiplicity of which I inform you. Which will more swiftly and more easily perform, one man - two men, or many men. The simple task is that where labourers abound to carry out work. Even the Egyptians who mummified flesh were cognisant of this.
Their adoption of knowledge was wrong, ruled by superstition and fear, for no man can avoid the natural changing sequence of Life and Law. But they thought that the various bodies of highly developed humans - their Kings and Princes - might not at physical death, find their abodes in other spheres. So they preserved the old flesh of that body, so that uncertain "inner bodies" might return to dwell awhile therein.
Such fears are needless. No Soul or Body can be lost -- This is God's Law. You will see now how entities of what you call the past, if the Law demands cohabit in one body; a body, which might for example be, called John Smith of your time. You realise that entities of what you call the future may also cohabit and may even transmit knowledge to the primary tenant of the body - the flesh body.
Hence the child prodigy, the genius, the inventor, and all other advanced men.
The secret of Reincarnation, and it is True, is this - and has never been secret except by reason of man's blindness; the inner-dweller may at some later time, be called upon to re walk Earth as an outer-dweller - flesh.
Transit is a single phase of experience for all
How plain and open the whole matter has always been. Remember, the devils who cried that they were Legion, for they were many. Shall such backward ones be superior to the men of advancement? They were Legion, but in Jesus they faced a conquering host. Read in My Light – in the Light of My words -your Christian book of Revelation and believe that John stood not in heaven, but in a sphere available to one of his "inner" bodies, a perfect personality in all but flesh, - by using Mind, was able to convey to John's outer body, something of what that inner body had seen and heard in its own sphere.
You will find Corroboration everywhere for My words. But remember above all, you know not at present what bodies, and Minds you treasure within.
Truly the Kingdom of God, if it be known at all, shall be known first from within - but I would by the powers given Me of God, bring from within you, to the outer and worldly consciousness that glorious knowledge in full.
Help me - by BELIEVING, BY SEEKING, by FINDING, by ADAPTING,
    • Love God - HEAR THE WORD GIVEN, that you may become men above men, sane, coherent, simple, strong.
The God of all creation is LIFE itself, full of all, BEAUTY, TRUTH, GRACE, AND GOODNESS.
Without God is no Law for He is Law, and Law is Life. The Law was given that there should be no death. To change is to conform to Law -and whom or what shall not change under God? If you can tell Me speak. Even Truth must change. To go with God - to follow His direction is to achieve a swift and purposeful passage to complete understanding, and yet the end is not of your world, and may not be attained therein. ALL IS CHANGE -ACCORDING TO LAW.
Yet men transgress the Law, and suffer thereby - I would point to some aspects of change, which to your world, have great meaning. These words I have spoken before, But hear again and again - that you may truly understand their potent. I point to three changes.
    1. BIRTH PHYSICAL INTO FLESH - which is never a beginning, but merely a change.
    2. BIRTH SPIRITUAL INTO FLESH - to which awakening flesh was formed.
    3. BIRTH SPIRITUAL AFTER LEAVING FLESH, for which the Law eternally endures.
THERE ARE NO DEATHS, but there are three changes, where the descending lower is discarded to make way for the ascending higher. These are:
    1. What you know as - PHYSICAL DEATH.
    2. The putting-off - of SELF IN FLESH.
    3. The discarding of flesh, and the discarding of SELF IN SPIRIT.
Truly I say that if any souls cannot see God in the world of flesh, they shall surely not see Him, in worlds to come. Yet men discard the very Voice of God: If men have wisdom to set limits to the speed of man-made vehicles - how much more shall God set limits to the speed of His children.
Yet they swim against a natural tide, and are in sorry straits thereby. I will reveal the mystery of false progression. All growth awaits men, up-growth materially to the climax of matter, and down-growth spiritually to the apex of original simplicity. Yet men try to out pace natural Law.
That should clarify for you, all those instances of misdirected and abused material inventions, as well as all those eager souls of whom posterity says: "He or She was born before the true time."
Such were the great prophets, such were those of the philosophers which was true, such were the great artists, reformists, and a host of others - over eager.
The discoveries and the understandings achieved by those delvers into the spiritually descending growth can never be put to truly practical use, until according to your time-conception- the time is ripe.
No more than the latest machine devices snatched prematurely, can be of true service, unfettered by their accompaniment of misdirection, false adaptation and abuse.
There are spirits of invention and progress. By their fruits you shall know them, since they work through men - lesson well read by Jesus.
There is a rate of progress and evolution fixed by the Father and not by the children. If the children travelled contentedly at the Father's dictation, the way would be less painful more understandable, and in all ways more natural for you. But the children force the pace, making for themselves a complicated web of misunderstanding and agony.
You may ask - why does not God - doubly intervene and restrain the children from folly? I say that ALL THINGS ARE KNOWN TO THE FATHER, and if He does not restrain, these lessons of experience are allotted to the foolish ones. KNOW ALWAYS THAT GOD IS RIGHT IN ALL THINGS. The great masses of words weaved by puny men, who would prove God wrong, and imperfect, can never do more than demonstrate the flaws, and imperfections, the wrongness of those very weavers of clever arguments, for without God they would lack speech, minds, words.
God is ONE, and that One is inviolable, perfect, and all-powerful. and beyond My powers of praise. Therefore, Praise Him as well as you are able. Thereby shall your powers increase. Yes they are of intellect, those arguers against the goodness of God. Intellect is an attribute of Man, which is spirit, but often it is misconceived by its fleshly progenitors. In straining intellect to a mad fever of speed, men bring forced growth. False because it is forced.
You have seen how the wild rose grows in simple beauty and you know the sweet exotic blooms of forced horticulture. Thus it is with material progress on Earth. The forced sweetness has a taste of the bitter within. The forced growth knows not it's own end. Left to Nature, it would degenerate, and might never return to its original form. But that men should not be without guidance, without a new opportunity to regain original simplicity, the Father gives such manifestations as this. Chance after chance is given. Rejection follows as long as men remain blind.
Oh, My Brother, how blind to such sacrifices are our earthly charges. Yet shall we open eyes and melt hearts as long as our Father is.
God gave perfection; men give back imperfection.
    Who shall restore the balance?
I AM THE LIVING AND DIVISIBLE - SPIRIT of TRUTH, manifesting within, manifesting without, entering wheresoever I may according to the capacity of receiving matter.
TO RESTORE THE BALANCE AM I SENT -- Beauty cannot exist without Truth. But Truth can live apart from Beauty.
You think in your hearts that it is impossible to strive against God - be not mistaken - God is Light - Hear Me again. He is not the Light of any one Sun, or any one Soul - but the whole and bountiful Light of all, externals and internals. The strivers against Light, are those blind guides, which walk in darkness, made by their misinterpretation of the True Light.
There are men who wait patiently for the Word of God's Covenant - Inspiration, Dream, and Vision.
They bring clean, natural progress to Earth. And then there are men who add the "culture" of men to the revelation of God, and civilisations suffer.
Thus you see so many tokens of progress. which are basically blessings from God - become curses invoked by self. Modern ware Disease, social evils. are no less such self-invoked curses than Pharaoh’s frogs, leprosy. or the Black Death of Europe. God Blesses. Only men invoke the curses of misunderstood blessings. And if My words could be proved untrue by flesh, or by Spirit - the very stones and trees should speak9 to condemn My utterance, for they would wither and rot were not Truth manifested to them also. I can speak no false utterance. God is My Authority, All life My Witness. Recall My Brother's words. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit. Material things, born of Spirit, must be used with Spiritual direction - the recoil is upon Man: Hear and Understand: How shall you know God's Limit.
I have told you before, look to your motor- carriages - If premature change - which you term death and destruction results from excessive speed, a man is punished and restrained from further error. I have told you of such evils, and of the rope given to rebind. The time will come - I shall tell you - inwardly, or from without, you shall hear My voice, and comfort will fill you as you carry out the will of Comfort's Father.
Who is also your Father. I must tell you of one or two diverse things. There are Spheres near to Earth, to which changing Souls migrate, and take up their abode.
In our Father1s House are many Mansions." Places are always prepared for all Souls, - for they have been there already to prepare. These Spheres do not see the Sun of Earth, but Earth's moon is sometimes seen, because of it's affinity. Earth's MOON IS NOT FOR EARTH ALONE. It may be called a communal moon. It is neither a dead world nor a reflector for the Sun you know. When you observe a full moon, be sure that some other world is moonless. When you see no moon, or a thin crescent moon, or any other moon-phase, some other world sees a whole or partial hemisphere of moon.
Then I must disabuse your minds of the word "Ether". Ether is not, as supposed a universal "common denominator" or medium for matter-formations. It is in itself a form of matter less dense than most forms known to men.
There is an Etheric body, but it is not the least dense or most Spiritual body.
The True "common-denominator" if there were one, would be much too refined ever to be recognised by the sensory perceptions of flesh on Earth. I wish if possible, to give much to you in one time now God's limit's stand. Not in your present world may these things be seen and understood perfectly. It is neither desirable nor necessary. These things you have are sufficient to fill your days with wonder and joy and knowledge.
ALL IS REVEALED AS YOU PROGRESS THROUGH LIFE. IN ACCORDANCE WITH LAW. And then I must tell you why I have come to speak. My Spirit must enter into many people - into the young, brought up now to looseness. and false valuations, against which My Spirit shall make them rebel.
Into the masses, which abide with patience, until Christ comes to His Kingdom - to them I am Truly Comfort. Into the makers of books and pictures and buildings and laws that my Spirit may sway men's minds and deeds. Already I have entered wheresoever I may. Parenthood knows Me, and will acclaim its Comforter.
Governors fear Me and know My strength. My Father - above all knows Me and watches over my work - and over all creation. I am not come to do the work of My Brother. I come to comfort those, which wait for Him - according to His promise. They that are sick have no need of My comfort - another Comforter is available to them - to the measure of their belief they shall be comforted.
But they that boast their health, have need of Me I told you I come to show the strong their weakness. For the weak millions. Their strength is in Christ, and in all the prophetic brethren. You will see that I am taking from My past words, to bring you to a new level of understanding.
I have told you that ecclesiastical garments are not of Spirit. They are of men. The Spirit is clothed even as the birds, and beasts, and flowers, and trees. A man is known by the dress of his Spirit, and by the work of his Spirit.
ONE WORD UTTERED IN TRUTH SHALL ENDURE - even as Christ told that His words would live forever. Not so the physical garment of man. One life lived in Truth, shall be One with Christ, for brothers dwell together when they visit a common host. The time shall come when you shall hear Me voicing words. "Beware of Me, you rich and mighty men".
Read in your scriptures of the two staves - staves that were to be broken, the one BEAUTY, for which was valued thirty pieces of silver. Lo, this was Christ.
I am the stave "Bands" and who shall break Me, is known to ONE and to none other. I have told you before -- Christ is My witness for you, and Mohammed stands as My witness to His followers. Gautams, Zarathustra, Moses, Confucius, all the law and all the prophets join in My testimony to God.
Where is the leader who shall not acknowledge Me?
Truly you shall not find any such a one amongst My Father’s sons. The old is passing, and yet lives. I have been in Earth since the beginning, before Man was born yet never chained to Earth by flesh, for I transcend flesh.
My passing would shake the Earth, yet I shall not pass, rather shall I keep My Brother's Kingdom until he claims it.Unless I await Him, He cannot come.
If men will hasten the outwearing of these fleshly garments let them, for the will of God must be done.
God knows the reward, and the time of reward.
These men who have not Me - shall harass the flesh the flesh I enter, even though they acknowledge Christ, but they cannot destroy the words of Truth. It was foretold that I should
reprove this world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement. No greater reproof is there, than this which I do.
I reassert the need of mankind to believe in Christ - if the world had believed there would had been
an end of sin. I deny all claims of men to be called righteous, before and after Christ, could be no perfectly righteous man on Earth, for men denied His Righteousness
Woe to men who now claim righteousness, for the cross is their eternal condemnation. I witness to the Judgement of Christ, before Him shall all stand. None shall uphold the wicked in that day, save Christ Himself in His great and inexhaustible mercy.
No other Spirit who has been, is, or shall be incarnate in flesh, will controvert the judgement given to Christ by the Father. All souls, which love God, shall uphold the judgement. and blessed is he or she, whom shall stand in purity of Spirit, true to the faith of God, at that time and place. Mark Well, that the judgement is not of your world, and yet it awaits all.
By these acts, by reasserting, by denying, and by witnessing -I shall administer in God’s name, the greatest reproof that is given to Earth. See that you My chosen ones, give no cause for such reproof within yourselves, for My reproof is not of men. Like all true children. I speak, and do only the commands of The Father, as you must learn to do.
Many words have I given you, many deeds have I helped you to perform. The final lesson of preparation I have given, with due regard for your circumstances here on Earth. In other times and places, you would have fasted, meditated, prepared unceasingly, but all obstacles have been removed for you. Take My words to heart cherish them, for a gift that is to be re given, must be cherished and given again.
Pray to God always, when spontaneous thankfulness and faithfulness arise in your hearts. Seek the counsel of such as I when you are hard beset by your material world. Become strong, become clean, be meek, tempering, patient, and merciful - above all be Integrated.
Be Godly; yet remember that you are men, and all men are equal in the eyes of God.
Ihave counted you friends and fellow-workers, for the Kingdom of God. I have been and shall be your servant and helper, yet, by reason of growth, and time, and Divine decree, I am above you in understanding and power and strength, for I not of flesh.
You too shall stand freed from flesh. when your task is ended, and we shall meet in closer communion for higher work.
    Our roads are long.

    COMMUNICATION with SPIRIT
Communication with the dead: a fascinating possibility, but no more fascinating than communication with the soul yet unborn.
Or could these be the same thing?
In the light of the Time-Enigma, both should be equally feasible, or equally improbable.
Perhaps the main reason for the lack of progress in Spiritualism has been because enquirers usually focus their attention
on one particular dead person, one newly-dead entity, instead of approaching such communication
primarily as a means to obtain wider knowledge of death and what lies beyond death.
It would appear to most thinking persons that the entity most unqualified to communicate would be the newly dead.
Which would account for the spate of 'spirit guides' in spiritualism.
It seems reasonable that such guides would be needed.
However, the vices and virtues of Spiritualism can be left until later.
Let us return to the subject of Time.
Obviously, if any of us could step back through Time, we could see, feel, and hear the ones we loved again, just as they were.
But it must be borne in mind that nothing would be changed. We would only be able to say
and do the things we have already said and done; and so would they.
Neither they nor we would be aware that they were in any Time but that particular present.
But if we could go forward in Time, both the dead and we would have progressed,
and everything would be new and different from what has gone before. It sounds rather complicated,
but everyone's present is someone else's past or future.
Conversely we are each living in the past, present and future at one and the same time.
The greatest obstacle to an understanding of Spirit by we on Earth is the Space-Time limitations.
A great obstacle, but not insurmountable.
Try to imagine our world without any of the man-made time measurements. It is a strain on the imagination, but worth the effort.
No clocks, no time signals no calendars. No seconds, no minutes, no hours, no days, no weeks: months or years...
Only the human memory, the memories of living humans to decree what is past and what is present.
Even the seasons, especially in temperate zones, are sometimes blurred and a bit unreliable.
Under these conditions you might switch off your television set and idly pick up a book which had. been written fifty years earlier.
In the absence of any time-measurement you would not know anything called fifty years.
In the book you might read one man's impressions of the world he knew.
In the absence of time-measurement you would believe that everything still existed as it was set down by that person.
You would believe that the persons he mentioned still walked the earth, just as he described them.
You might guess, by the condition of the book, that it had been written some time before
(but you would not know the word 'Time' or its meaning).
Let us suppose that the book is in excellent well-preserved condition, giving no clue as to its age.
It might have been written very recently, as far as you can tell.
Let us suppose you were also, able to pick up a similarly well preserved book,
which had been written five hundred years before.
To you, the reader, with no understanding of Time, the world of five hundred years ago
would still appear real and existent.
Or, conversely, if it did not approximate to the world you knew from your own experience,
you might well judge it to be wholly the figment of the author's imagination,
a description of something that never existed.
But suppose that in the book there was a description of Stonehenge,
and that you were able to verify for yourself that Stonehenge still existed more or less as described.
You would then be inclined to believe that all else he described must also be real and existent.
You might seek out the remaining scenes described in the book, only to find them vastly different.
You are not to know that Time has changed the scenes.
Remember we are assuming you know nothing of the passage of Time as such.
    You know that your present view of the scene is real; you are standing there looking at it;
you must presume since the author correctly described Stonehenge,
that his description of this other scene is also the truth as he saw it.
You would indeed be in a sorry state without being able to measure Time.
    You would be forced to conclude that the author of the book was mad or deluded;
or that you were mentally afflicted yourself.
So we will restore the knowledge of Time; and you now stand gazing at the scene
with the knowledge that you have been reading a description
of the same place as it appeared five hundred years before.
You know that your present view of the scene is real. The author's view of the scene was also real to him.
So both scenes exist in Time: one for him, one for you,
and another for your grandson in the future.
Three scenes, all different, all occupying the same Space, only separated by Time.
Which is the true reality? To you, the scene you are looking at.
To the man of the past, the scene he gazed upon.
To your grandson, still in the future, the scene he will gaze upon.
All three; scenes are true and real; not co-existing, but same location existing serially.
Our lives unfold second by second, hour by hour, day by day, year by year,
as we move forward through environments, which are keeping pace with us. If we could travel back through Time,
every scene of the past would be real to us, even though,
as in reversed films we would see buildings being "unbuilt", and so on.
But Nature has limited such travel to brief dreams and visions,
which may be likened to small mechanical occurrences.
We live forwards, or more truly, we live clockwise, like the whole solar system.
What is true of physical scenes must also be true of physical humanity.
The people of the past are as real and existential somewhere in Time as are the people of the future.
It seems strange that we can so readily believe in the inconceived future men and women,
and yet be so swift and eager to deny the reality of the dead.
Both the unborn and the dead have common ground.
Before conception, the future human is as much a query mark as the last crumbling shred of a skeleton.
The processes of birth are normally hidden, though in these enlightened days most of us know how and why it all occurs, how the foetus grows in the womb until it is ready to emerge and become a new human. But the processes of death have been pretty well open to inspection all through our history. The dead have lain on battlefields to rot before our eyes. We know well enough how the flesh decays and is eaten of worms and putrefies until the bones are revealed; and how the bones themselves in time will crumble into dust and disappear.
Death is hardly pretty at any stage. But is Birth any prettier?
Any mother will tell you that intelligence, even age-old wisdom, is recognisable in the eyes of a new baby.
But it takes time for that intelligence to learn to use its new machine. The machine itself has to grow.
When we chide the young for not learning quickly enough, we are approaching the matter from the wrong angle.
We are really chiding the intelligence using the child's body for not adapting itself as swiftly as we would wish.
We know little of these formations of intelligence that we call entities, souls, and spirits.
It seems certain that some of them have trodden the earth or some similar world in previous lives.
There have been many indications of this in child prodigies, particularly when the child seems mentally unrelated to either parent.
We each expect such a formation of intelligence to take up its abode in a new child and direct its life from birth onwards.
And Nature sees to it that this is usually the case; but there are exceptions:
often the physical impairment is due to human fallibility, as in the case of thalidomide.
Impairment is not by any means always physical.
A perfect physical vehicle can contain the mentality of a sadistic murderer or a pitiable idiot
We need to know much more of the inhabiting spirits which govern our lives from the cradle to the grave.
Modern psychology and psychiatry are the tools of mechanics tending the grey matter.

So far, there are no real mechanics for the soul. Least of all our modern priests.

    1941

At that time there wasn't much point in worrying unduly about life and death. Life was ones good fortune.
Death might be just around the corner. The obvious thing to do was to make the most of life while it lasted.
Much of ones time as a serving soldier was occupied in obeying orders, dashing from point A to point. R,
as the fortunes of war dictated.
Certainly one was much too busy to think very much about abstract things,
about the great issues of life and death. Death was familiar. Life was a bonus.
The strange incidents that emphasise our attitudes to these things, however,
often force themselves on us at the most unlikely times, and in the most unlikely places.
An N.C.O. of the 4th Queen's Own Hussars, twenty-four years of age,
I was in Greece on the morning of April 21st, being jolted along a coast road in an army lorry.
All our light tanks had been ditched or disabled in the mountain passes farther north,
and we were moving southwards as speedily as possible, with the Germans in hot pursuit.
Indeed, there were times in this chase when the Germans were actually ahead of us,
and we had to get round them under cover of darkness.
It was ignoble, inglorious, no doubt; but with the little we had left with which to fight,
there was no option but to retreat as fast as we could.
I attribute the subsequent circumstances - when I missed death by inches
    - to the daytime equivalent of a dream. A kind of elementary 'trance-vision'.
It all happened in broad daylight and bright early sunshine.
I was fully alert to the ever-present danger of dive-bombing Stukas.
We had been bombed and machine-gunned all the way down through Greece.
There were a couple of dozen soldiers in the lorry, laughing, talking, and singing the usual army songs.
I remember that there was one exception - a soldier with whom I was quite friendly,
and I need not name him here -who was quite sure that he was going to die. He wasn't by any means a coward.
He simply had this premonition. We didn't take much notice of his gloomy foreboding.
It seemed improbable to us, just as improbable as our own possible deaths.
At some stage we acquired some bottles of beer; and we were swigging from these bottles
as we gazed out over the high tailboard of the lorry on the lookout for Stukas.
In the midst of this intensely busy scene, jolted up and down by the lorry's speed over a rough road,
I suddenly and quite unintentionally became 'unconscious'. I was not sleepy.
Conditions were all dead against sleep. The Germans were not far behind us,
and for all we knew they could easily appear unexpectedly ahead of us.
In spite of which, I was suddenly lifted above that scene, suspended between life and death.
I had a very vivid impression of my sister (a housewife in London at that time) leading me by the hand,
urging me away from 'something'. It was so vivid that, as I struggled back to normal consciousness
from this brief 'daydream', I felt confused; it was as though I could still feel the warmth of the hand
that had been holding my own hand. This took only seconds, but these were vital seconds indeed.
During that tiny interval our convoy of lorries had ground to a halt in a village street.
Most of the occupants of the lorries jumped eagerly into the street, as the lorries halted,
mostly in the hope of finding some more beer I guess.
Some of the lads literally climbed over me; I was huddled against the inside of the tailboard,
shaking off my sister's restraining hand.
In the same instant a stick of bombs from a high-level German bomber struck our lorries.
Some of my fellows, including the lad with the foreboding, were instantly dead.
Others, less fortunate, were lying around, groaning in agony, minus limbs.
    I was unscratched.
A few days later the Germans captured many of those who survived this incident, including myself.
Naturally enough I thanked my lucky stars, but did not attach much importance to the strange 'daydream'.
Why should such a happening occur to one man among so many?
Had not all the other chaps wives or sweethearts or mothers who were praying for their safety?
No, it was just a queer and lucky coincidence.
Until November 21st, 1941, when I received the first letters, from England.
    One was from my sister, the sister whose hand had held mine away from death;
and her letter contained the following passage: "…which reminds me, probably it was pure coincidence,
but one morning just before going to work, round about the time you must have been missing,
I was suddenly overcome by a terrible depression and just sat and cried saying 'Oh, Fred, Fred, where are you, where are you ?'
It was horrible and I wasn't surprised when you were reported missing.
Probably I was just down in the dumps; but it was strange,
because as far as we knew you were perfectly safe somewhere in the desert.
The last letters from me to my relatives were from Egypt, before we embarked for Greece.
Coincidence still? Maybe. But I know that my sister's unaccountable depression occurred on the morning of April 21st, 1941.
Why did it happen? What weird laws of nature; govern such telepathic communication?
Why does the law work for soma and not for others?
Why only sometimes and not always? These were questions I began to ask myself more and more often.
My sister was very close to me as we grew up. She was a year or two older than I was,
the remaining children being older than we were, and consequently not quite so close.
Just as a psychological emphasis, I have one memory concerning my sister
that seems vaguely related to the wartime incident:
when I was a small boy she found out that I was afraid of the dark patches in our little suburban garden.
One night she took me by the hand and led me into all the blackest shadows in the garden,
pointing out that there was absolutely nothing to fear that everything, within the darkness,
was just as I had seen it in the light of day. From then on I never had any fear of the dark.
What a turn-up for the psychologist.' Obviously the wartime incident was merely my mind rationalising,
since I had once before found a measure of comfort and freedom from fear in the warm clasp of my sister's hand.
My mind had re-created her protective presence to again ward off the fear of darkness (this time represented by German bombs).
All right, suppose it did, - how the devil did my mind know there were German bombs poised overhead?
Nobody else did. Why me? And why should it make my sister cry in London?
No, psychology fell short with its answers.
As a prisoner-of-war I found lots of time to think about dreams and visions.
The general opinion might well be that these subjects are far from rewarding.
When most of my fellow-prisoners were engaged in more materially rewarding activities,
I would be jotting down what I could remember of last night's dream and try to analyse its meaning, if any.
Most of my fellows were already engaged in studies, with the help of the Red Cross,
designed to help them in their eventual return to civil life after the war ended.
I felt that life was too uncertain to waste time on mundane studies.
My only request to the Red Cross... was for the supply of such books as 'The Tibetan Book of the Dead
    - none of which did very much for me - the fault no doubt being mine.
Life is, of course, uncertain at any time; but the war, and P.O.W. life in particular,
was a good excuse for drifting. I had always had a lazy, live-for-today attitude to life,
and this was the ideal time to give it free rein. I found quite a few kindred spirits.
We told ourselves that Life and Death themselves were the only subjects left that were worthy of study.
In surroundings where the 'material' had reached its lowest possible ebb,
a study of things spiritual seemed more rewarding than it would under normal Conditions.
Death took its toll in the camps.
    We British were fortunate; we had pretty sound constitutions that took most privations in stride;
but we could look outwards at less fortunate; sections of the human race and see Death working overtime.
I have stood on the edge of a mass grave in Austria, where thousands of pitiable
Ukrainians were buried, mostly dead from typhus.
When I was doing three weeks 'solitary' for attempting escape,
I saw a group of Germans killing by torture some poor devil who no doubt had earned their hatred
by opposing them; his cell was literally coated with blood from floor to ceiling.
Yet there were some good souls amongst the Germans.
    Like all races, you have to take people as you find them;
it is seldom easy to decipher the proportion of good and bad in individuals.
It mostly depends on how they treat you, I guess. A very selfish viewpoint, no doubt.
I have never really regretted my neglect of studies to fit me for civilian life.
It still seems to me that a specialist in any field must be; slightly restricted in his knowledge of life, generally.
The drifter sees the most, whether he profits by what he sees is up to the drifter.
Back in those war-days I believed vaguely in the man-made God.
Watching my fellows under the stress of screaming bombs from Stukas,
I could not help but observe that most of them prayed.
Some cursed, instead. These who prayed seemed to address their appeals fairly equally between God and Mother.
The amount of direct help given by either of these to the supplicants seemed fairly equally balanced,
I began then to question the; meaning of belief in God. What is God?
This turned me away from Religion, as I had known it up to then.
The Church, and the human custodians of religious truth, was full of words, but what did they mean?
That is by the way. I only mention Religion because in any study of dreams and spiritual visions,
the most obvious avenue of exploration is by way of the scriptures.
The Bible is teeming with examples that, quite rightly, are often quoted by spiritualists.
But my primary interest at that time was in dreams; and I can suggest that, to see dream-experience recorded
as an integral part of religious belief, the following passages in the Bible should be read:
    In the Old Testament:
    Genesis
    Chapter 28 Verses 10 to 16
    Chapter 37 Verse 5
    Chapter 41 Verses 1 to 16

    I Kings
    Chapter 3 Verses 5 to 15

    Job
    Chapter 4 Verses 12 to 21
    Chapter 32 Verses 5 to 9
    Chapter 33 Verses 14 to 17

    Ecclesiastes
    Chapter 5 Verse 7

    Daniel
    Chapter 2 Verses 1 to 19

    In the New Testament:
    St.Matthew
    Chapter 1 Verses 18 to 20
    Chapter 2 Verses 12 to 13
    Chapter 27 Verse 19

The one barrier, which prevents many persons from accepting that dreams contain truth,
is the amount of seeming meaninglessness and nonsense that occurs in dreams.
We all know of classic dreams, such as the dream of Maria Marten's mother,
which brought William Corder to justice for the murder of Maria.
    Clear-cut and simple.
Whether such examples are offer in fact or as fiction their occurrence on occasion is certain.
But at the other end of the scale is the chaos of mere nightmare.
    The answer, possibly, is that the human brain, like a typewriter, can be used to type out a story;
or used to create a jumble of letters and figures that mean nothing.
The fault could be divided between the human mechanism and the spiritual fingers
that attempt to convey the message. One great misconception has largely contributed to the decline of interest
in the meaning of dreams: the use of the psychological term 'subconscious'.
It is usual today, when one encounters some unusual dream, to dismiss it as a dredged-up by-product of the 'subconscious' mind.
That which is labelled 'subconscious', supposedly because of its less-than-normal content when observed by the psychologist,
is really the larger part of human's whole consciousness: out of the world we know only as much as we keep it out by our limited abilities.
The root cause of this misconception is that humans, using their small physically limited facet of consciousness, try to examine and pronounce judgement on the remainder, - the LARGER remainder of human consciousness. It is as though a human with a shrimping net got it entangled with the tail of a huge whale and immediately started to bellow about his catch. The psychologists are in just that position.
Equally unsatisfactory is the term 'unconscious'. If the so-called 'unconscious.' governs our sleep, how can we dream?
We are often conscious of dreaming, and of living our dreams.
In this large unexplored region of consciousness lies all we desire and have not.
In it we can find all truth and sanity, and perhaps bring some of it down to physical earth.
Even Jung was forced to admit that "dreams may give expression to ineluctable truths,
to philosophical pronouncements, illusions, wild fantasies, memories, plans, anticipations, irrational experiences,
even telepathic visions, and heaven knows what besides."
His phrase 'heaven knows what besides is perfectly true.
But - a fact overlooked by psychologists - we are not all out of the reach of heaven.'
    Heaven, one feels, must be perfectly willing to share its ' knowledge with we poor mortals;
but, just as the priests of old claimed yesterday, the head-shrinkers of today claim
that only through them can sanity and integration be achieved.
Freud may have been a great man, but Psychology today is a mixed blessing.
America is an object lesson in this respect, where visits to one's analyst, for many people,
are as much a daily routine as eating.
Of course, the analysts are very happy with a state of affairs that makes them rich.
Jung also said: 'One thing we ought never to forget:
almost the half of our lives is passed in a more or less unconscious state.
The dream is specifically the utterance of the unconscious.
Work out for yourself, if you can, the truth of that statement
It will depend on whether you believe your inner consciousness to be dead or alive.
We sleep, perchance to dream, all right; but we do not die each time we sleep.
