    MY GREAT-GRANDPARENTS, GRANDPARENTS,
PARENTS & even me a 50s kid was GREEN !!!

Here is a little bit to read...
as, well as, a little bit to ponder !!!

i was conceived on the shores of Algonquin Park
in a tent with '13' poles and no floor
i was born on the banks of The Humber River
in Weston, Toronto, Ontario in Canada
    i was raised in Rexdale,
until i moved to Markland Woods
    both in Etobicoke, Toronto, Ontario...
and, i purchased my first home
    in Mississauga, Ontario
    and, did that alone !!!

    This is an interesting story...
    so, i thought i'd share it !!!

    While at the supermarket,
i ntoiced a young cashier say to an older woman:

    Madam,
You should bring your own shopping bags...
because these plastic ones are not eco-friendly!

The older lady apologized and replied:
In my time, there was no such green campaign.

    That's your problem, ma'am.

    Your generation didn't care enough
about the environment as we do.

You're right - answered the lady.

    Our generation did not care
    about the environment properly.

    Back in my day,
we PAID a deposit on our glass bottles,
so, we always made sure to return
    our glass bottles of milk,
    carbonated drinks, beer, and alcohol
~NOTHING was ever put into any landfill site

    The store took them back,
gave us a credit for the deposits,
    and, returned them
    to the factory
    where people had jobs,
and, made sure they were washed properly
    and completely sterilized
    before they were used again...
and, those bottles got used, alright,
over and over and over again !!!

You say we did NOT really care
about the environment in my time...
    hoever, in my time,
all baby diapers were being washed by hand,
    because they were NOT disposable...
in fact, you could NOT even buy disposable diapers!!!

And, we had to dry them ourselves,
not in form of a tumble type of dryers...
those things, were NOT even invented yet...
in fact, we used the wind to dry them,
so, we were using 'real' solar power !!!
    and, you KNOW what,
it was FREE, and, the solar power
dried up the diapers, very efficently, and, very fast !!!

    In our time,
many of us, did NOT even own a TV SET
    until the 60s, and,
we only had one television in a home,
and, we only had one radio set ...
and, there was NO cds, dvds, or stereo equipments...
there was NO WALKMAN'S or HEADPHONES
    or, even cell phones !!!

And the TV was black and white
    with a very small screen,

and, it wasn;t til the end of the 70s
that we could record vhs or beta.

In the kitchen we did everything with our hands,
there was NO electrical applicances to do the work for us !!!

And, when we had to mail things to other people...
we utilsed 'old newspapers' for packing materials...
there was NO such thing as plastic bubbles, packing peanuts, or even styrofoam balls, which are NOT eco-friendly
and, take over 500 years to degrade.

We also did NOT use gasoline powered
lawn mowers to cut the grass,
    we used mechanical push mowers...
and, there was NO snow blowers,
we used snow shovels, and, did it all by hand !!!

We did NOT even have gyms to go to...
    however, we lived in ways,
    we walked many places,
just to save the cost of a $0.10 bus ticket
some of us walked 6 miles to work ...
but, we were also in incredible shape.

Many people had a bike, but did NOT have a car.

    Most familes shared '1' car...
and, often, the man of the house,
needed that car; to run his daily business from !!!

WOW, you think you are still right,
that we did NOT care about the environment
    in our time ???

or, are you a little bit shocked to learn this information ???

You know, we also drink water directly
from the drinking fountain, a lake or a stream
or straight out of the tap,
not from plastic bottles and glasses,

that now fill the oceans with plastic crap
that is waste from your generation...
it might even shock you, but, in 1958,
    some people on farms,
STILL had NO indoor running water,
    and, used outhouses !!!

In the morning we all got on the tram or bus,
we ride bikes or walk to school
    instead of using our parents
    for 24-hour taxi service.

    Then, isn't it amazing
    that the current generation
talks so much about the "environment",
but does not want to give up anything
and does not think about life
    with a little humility,

at least as i did in my time!
