Susan Lynne Schwenger No such thing. You are either O- or you are Null. They are not the same. Only a handful of people are Null due to severe gene deletion. ~

Az Esm that is NOT true; i am rhnegO + null -- Can you be a negative and Rh null at the same time?

Firstly, the blood group O- is denoted so as a result of two different sets of groups i.e. the ABO blood group and the Rh factor blood group. The O blood group occurs die to the absence of the A and B antigens. The -ve is due to the absence of the Rh factor.
To answer you, it can be easily mistaken that Rh negative and Rh null are the same because only the absence or presence of the “Rh factor” is considered for majority of the population. But infact, the Rh blood group has about 50 antigens of which we mostly only look for the D antigen. In cases of Rh-ve, even though the D antigen is absent, other antigen such as C,E,F etc may exist. A person who is Rh null lacks all antigens under the Rh group.
So Rh negative and Rh null are not the same. And a person can be A,B,AB or O and Rh null as they are determined by two different groups of blood antigens.

Rh null is irrespective of the ABO blood group. This means you can be A, B, AB, or O and be Rh null at the same time. The rhesus and ABO systems are completely separate. When we say a person is Rh positive or negative, we mean that a specific Rhesus antigen (RhD) is present or absent on the red blood cells. However, there exist about 50 different Rhesus antigens, which can't normally all be absent.
The Rh system consists of 2 different proteins, coded by two different, but highly similar, genes. Different immunogenic regions (epitopes) on these proteins are recognised as the different Rh antigens. The most important ones are C, c, D, E, and e. Capitalisation matters! While the D antigen can be either present or absent (positive or negative), the Cc and Ee antigens are codominant, meaning you always have at least one of each. In other words, while RhD can be absent, you always have Rhc or RhC, and Rhe or RhE. Again, capitalisation matters: RhC is different from Rhc.
Now, Rh null is a rare genetic mutation in which both Rhesus proteins are not expressed. People with Rh null do not have any of the 50 different Rh antigens. This means that Rh null blood is the perfect donor blood, also called the “golden blood”. It also means that people with Rh null can create antibodies against every single Rh antigen. If that happens, the only blood they can receive is other Rh null blood.
Currently less than a hundred people on the planet are known to be Rh null.

This clown is always miserable online
    ~thinks he knows it all

ironically; there are 2 different tests
one that determines your blood type

and; a 2nd one; that can determine if you are NULL

NULL is found in all blood types - that is where he is WRONG

i happen to be both RH NEG O, and, NULL
    i'VE BEEN tested
    i give plasma
    i bank my own blood

he threatened to block me; if i said anything he didn;t like - who does he think he is ??? god ??? ROFL !!!
