On a red shield, a lance. The red shield is divided left bottom to right top through the lance. On the shield at the top there is a helmet with two great buffalo horns. The lance and the horns are in gold. Wilhelmus Schwenger signed with a signet with this particular crest on the 10th of November 1152. ​

Schwenger is one of the oldest proven family names in Southwest-Germany. The name is noted in the "Dienstmannenbuch", a feudal, military record book of Welzheim in 1150. Konrad von Waldhausen from Haerdnisweiler and Leineck is noted in this record book. So far he is the first mentioned representative of The Schwengers. Early Schwengers used to be called Schwenger von Waldhausen. But the name got split. A branch with the name Waldhausen moved between 1417 and 1420 to Esslingen and dropped the name Schwenger. The other descendants remained and kept the name Schwenger. One early representative of this Schwengers is the Vogt zu Neuberg. He also carried the coat of arms. The signet was already known in 1152 when Whilhelmus Schwenger used this particular crest. The noble family of the Waldhausen/ Schwenger is recorded up to 1916 in the municipal office of Aalen, Crailsheim, Gaildorf, Gmuend, Welzheim and Kuenzelsau. The name can also be found in the Geislingen Lexicon of Swabia for 1498. And today? In Germany The family name Schwenger is a rare name. The highest numbers of Schwenger or Schwengers still live in the southern part of Germany. But you can virtually find the name Schwenger in every city-phone directory in Germany. Also in many Austian and Swiss cities. In north America and Canada you can also find a lot of Schwenger families and individuals. Large numbers live on the east coast and in the the midwest of the US. In Canada a lot of Schwengers live in the province of Ontario.
