Love Thy Neighbor, Except?… March 29, 2021 | Sundance | 228 Comments It has taken me a few hours to diminish the anger that surfaced when I first saw these two pictures below. As readers will note I have taken exception to the lack of strong leadership from the church during this COVID crisis. During a time when fellowship is most needed, most urgently needed, many churches are collapsing under their own fear. This is not a good outcome. Suffice to say, there is absolutely nothing sensible about the position of this church as pictured; NOTHING. First, for vaccinated people there is absolutely nothing to fear from the decision of another person not to vaccinate themselves. A non-vaccinated person does not represent a greater risk to a person who is vaccinated against the COVID virus. It is abject nonsense to make any other argument. Second, this purposeful division is akin to saying ‘good people on the right, pesky non-good people on the left’. Setting up “classes of distinction” based on voluntary compliance with a non-FDA-approved test vaccine is ridiculous in the extreme. For a faith-based organization to be doing this is beyond the pale. There is absolutely nothing christian about dividing people based on their vaccination status. Jesus did not say “love thy neighbor” and proceed to inject a qualifying “unless” in the statement. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”Fellowship is critical during this COVID isolation that has befallen many people in various states where the virus has been weaponized to create fear. There is nothing more valuable than the connection we share to each other; nothing is more purposeful; nothing is more inherently spiritual than being a source of light, hope, faith and love for our family, friends and community. I would strongly urge any faith-based organization to evaluate their messaging around the COVID-19 virus and immediately cease any overt or implied message that draws lines of division in any congregation. THAT is the job of leadership. Comfort the afflicted, and stand strong amid the evil seeking to divide our nation. The Catholic Church does not represent Christians anymore. This is like the water fountains in the South years ago, one for Whites and one for Colored. 4 Reply DellaC March 30, 2021 8:58 am Reply to FrankieZee I am sad to see this comment. My parish does not have such signs. The Church is made up of sinners, all of us. Catholic teaching does not say parish priests are inerrant. (We can discuss the Ex Cathedra doctrine, reserved to the Pope, at a later date.) They and the laity make mistakes, making the beautiful mercy and forgiveness of Our Lord so AWE-some. It is unfortunate, indeed, when any visible authority of any Christian church–and aren’t we all “ambassadors for Christ”?– takes up a position that seems to put politics over Christ. For myself, I love Christ and the church He founded. I pray for holy priests and for my own personal sanctity. God bless you, FrankieZee, and all who read this post. 0 Reply TwoLaine-President, Legal President #45 Fan Club March 30, 2021 8:23 am DRIVE these evil places out of bz. 0 Reply TwoLaine-President, Legal President #45 Fan Club March 30, 2021 8:24 am Reply to TwoLaine-President, Legal President #45 Fan Club By that I mean do not show up. I was wrong. This is the New World Order test. How much tyranny are we willing to accept? Apparently quite a lot! Apparently pastors have sold out. Freedom vs Tyranny, it really is that simple! 1 Reply USMCLt March 30, 2021 8:43 am I take my strength from Jesus and from Christian martyrs who, until this very day, have given their lives for the “holy catholic”church. Small “c” catholic means universal. And the universal Christian church exists in the hearts and minds of Christians around the world, regardless of what awful governments tell them to do. My fellow Christians, it is up to us to be fearless and to stand up against this tyranny, at home, at work AND at worship!!! And if we fail to do so, well, what miserable wretches we are! Throw off the chains, gather together as free men and women and sing out, God is Great!!! 1 Reply @Phil McCoxwell March 30, 2021 8:55 am God resides in your heart. Pews not necessary. Initially people social distanced and still do, to a degree. Those most vulnerable watched the live stream. To date not one parishioner has been diagnosed with COVID. The church was quite full for Palm Sunday and this will probably repeat for Easter. We have been blessed. 6 Reply coastermomohio March 30, 2021 6:51 am Reply to jus wundrin Interesting to see this. I have been watching the mass at my local church online and noticed that at the end when giving general announcements, the pastor thanked people for wearing masks and asked that they continue to do so. I am not a registered member of this church; however, I do attend mass there and contribute financially during the offering (or did before the shutdowns). I really want to attend the Holy Week services there. I could wear a mask, but I prefer not to and I have been debating whether or not I should comply. I will be praying for guidance on this. I don’t want to “cause a scene”, but I have a strong desire to set an example. My motives are simply to send a message to others that we must stand up and be counted. I know it will be uncomfortable, but I am trying to get used to that. 5 Reply readyandable1 March 30, 2021 9:02 am Reply to coastermomohio I did it once….walked right by the the head Priest on the way in. No one said a thing. Next time I was there for my son’s first Communion preparation….they had 80000 signs saying you MUST wear a mask. I’m pretty sure it was a reaction to my earlier entry. 0 Reply Landslide March 30, 2021 12:36 am Bottom line for me: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 Either we believe the bible or we don’t. If we do, then Jesus has not changed. He redeemed, delivered, and healed 2000 years ago and He still is doing those things today. Every pastor should be teaching the Word, praying for the sick, addressing the evils of the day, and encouraging the members to seek God & His wisdom on a daily basis. As I told a Target employee many months ago, “God made us to fellowship with each other!” Her eyes got really big and she nodded her head in agreement…as if a light was turning on in her head. I hope so. I believe my bout with the wuhan flu came directly from attending my mask-free church back in November. Singing while sitting close to others for 1 1/2 hrs. then symptoms 3-4 days later. It was MY CHOICE to attend then as it is now. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of POWER, love, and a sound mind. I give Him all of the glory for each pastor who is not only living out the Gospel, but who is a patriot. I pray for more! If I I absolutely could not find a single such church, I would have some like-minded people in my home. God has certainly been revealing the motives of men’s hearts. P.S. I have learned about D3 and boosting my immune system. I have learned about Ivermectin. And if I were a pastor, I’d be preaching that, too!! 23 Reply JayJay March 30, 2021 2:43 am Reply to Landslide In cases like these, I think the devil is winning. How is it that Christian holidays are the moments of isolation? Remembering also Christmas. It is because Satan does not want the believers to fellowship with God on these holidays in unison. He wants us divided and alone. In the entire island of Cebu, the governor has said no to the lockdowns. No more, she is extremely angry about this. The Vactican II Church, or the mainstream Catholic Church, like the mainline Protestant Churches, has been hollowed out (“hallowed” out?) over the past 60 years. Look for them to collapse — well, they’re collapsing now — and the more “hardline” or “fundamentalist” versions of them will be the only ones to survive. 5 Reply Paca March 30, 2021 6:47 am Reply to Raghn Crow A lot of God loving Catholics will be looking for some place to worship. The same God who gave up his own Son for our salvation, will he not protect us from a bad cold virus? God protects us because he loves us, as demonstrated in the gift of Christ. Has that love somehow been diminished? Not according to scripture:. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39 8 Reply piper567 March 30, 2021 1:10 am Reply to Jonrilus My church has been open since May 31st, 2020. We have been blessed with many visitors who initially attended due to churches being shuttered. We are packed in each Sunday, sometimes w young families having kids sitting on the floor in the back. No masks, and much hugging. 2 positive Virus tests in one yr; contacts established; no spreading. We are a Bible-preaching/teaching church which has resonated with many, and we have had 40 Families join us as Members, after attending 2 Classes…so they know what they have chosen. Our Leadership’s position is: Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and render unto God what is God’s. Very profitable relationships continue to flourish, and all are delighted to attend worship on a weekly basis. Not all churches have succumbed to the Government’s overreach. 17 Reply Ophelia March 30, 2021 3:33 am Reply to piper567 What state are you in? 0 Reply Distracted2 March 30, 2021 12:45 am During this Easter season, I still have hope. This type of behavior and a call for vaccination passports is what pushed her over the edge. For some, it takes the absurd to recognize what is happening. I fully believe that God has a hand in this – people have to see the evil to recognize it. The church is as fallible as the people who comprise it. Along the way, we saw a small, country church with this on their announcement board out front: “We will never ever close our doors again!” My church has been jumping through all the COVID hoops and now has announced (with much enthusiasm, it appears) that there is “special, separate seating” for those “fully vaccinated”, although masks & social distancing are still required, even for the vaccinated. This is very disappointing. Separating people on vax status is wrong, IMO & frankly, I think it’s more “virtue signalling” than anything else. We have not been to church since the first shutdown in March of last year. My elderly parents (one is 98) are incapable of making ‘online reservations’. No singing. Ushered to/from your seat. No socializing – get ushered out of your seat & go get in your car & leave. It’s been very depressing for them to be kept away from people they have known & been close friends with for decades & some of those people have now died over the past year (none from COVID). They watch church on TV from 10 – 12 on Sundays. The live-streaming from our church has improved; however, it’s still fairly low quality & the folks cannot hear it well enough to get anything out of it (both have hearing aids). If I lived closer to that little country church with the open doors, that’s probably where I’d be going. 0 Reply penny munday March 30, 2021 5:49 am Sinners on the left…..pharisees on the right. 2 Reply SueAnn Brockwell March 30, 2021 5:51 am What about those with medical conditions and allergies who CANNOT TAKE THE VACCINES? Are they to be forever locked out and shunned like lepers? 5 Reply coastermomohio March 30, 2021 7:09 am Reply to SueAnn Brockwell They will be told that it is now considered safe to take the vaccine even with allergies or other medical issues. That is essentially what has been done with mask exemptions, at least here in Ohio. We were told if people had conditions like COPD or asthma they could be exempted. Recently I heard a report that really people with asthma or other respiratory conditions CAN wear a mask. Not sure but I think it was at one of Dewine’s pressers. You see, for every excuse you give, they will find a way to negate it. Just like they did when mask wearing first started and people said “I will take my chances and go without.” Suddenly, the mask wasn’t going to protect the wearer, but it definitely would protect others. Just watch them. They are so predictable. 2 Reply Distracted2 March 30, 2021 7:22 am Reply to SueAnn Brockwell I am one of those who can’t take vaccines. Thankfully, I had COVID and survived it so I have antibodies, which is much better than a vaccine. And I’m almost 61. That said, if I hadn’t contracted COVID, I can’t imagine what abuse would be coming my way. 0 Reply nwtex March 30, 2021 5:53 am SHAMING PASTORS WHO REOPENED THEIR CHURCHES Posted on March 25, 2021 by mariomurilloministries -snipped- The lockdown of the church and small businesses was not done to stop the virus. If it were, then big box stores would not have stayed open. And why were Black Lives Matter protestors and Antifa, standing shoulder to shoulder without masks, allowed to riot and to destroy $1.9 billion in property? Democrats see small businesses and churches as strongholds for the family values they are trying to destroy. This was never about stopping a virus—it was always about destroying the opposition. The brave preachers who have refused to shutdown are being faithful to the mission! Just as Paul opposed the officials in Acts 16:37 when he said to them “They have beaten us openly, uncondemned Romans, and have thrown us into prison. And now do they put us out secretly? No indeed! Let them come themselves and get us out.” […] https://mariomurilloministries.wordpress.com/2021/03/25/shaming-pastors-who-reopened-their-churches/ Last edited 3 hours ago by nwtex 5 Reply JIM March 30, 2021 5:55 am Stop contributions and this will go away. 2 Reply sbrgirl March 30, 2021 6:03 am We joined a non-denominational, full gospel church last summer. We sing, we hug, we share meals, and most of us have had Covid19 at some point. With very few exceptions who required hospitalizations due mainly to underlying conditions, members of our congregation have not had serious issues with this virus. What we have had is human contact and wonderful fellowship with others who love our Lord. As far as the so-called vaccine, Why would anyone who had this virus need a so-called vaccine? Last edited 3 hours ago by sbrgirl 2 Reply Seneca the Elder March 30, 2021 6:07 am The Catholic Church is the absolute worst, at least in suburban Westchester, NY. In addition to all the insanity regarding religious services, the pastors no longer allow any community groups to use parish facilities. This includes the seniors who play Bingo as well as AA and NA groups who have not been allowed to hold meetings in the church hall for over a year. Our AA groups have been decimated and we have lost many people who most likely went back out drinking. I have heard horror stories about the increase in drunk driving not to mention all the other problems that befall alcoholics who go back out there. The parish priest I deal with is worse than any politician; in fact, he is an inhuman sociopath who seems to enjoy telling us we can no longer use the giant space where we have held our meetings for over 40 years. The room has capacity of 350 people while all our groups are less than 30 people. I have tried everything including quoting scripture to no avail. I have reported him and others to the Archdiocese which is just like telling FU Schumer. This is why so many Christians like myself have left the Catholic Church. It is a thoroughly corrupt institution that doesn’t follow the teachings of Christ. 8 Reply Raghn Crow March 30, 2021 6:55 am Reply to Seneca the Elder Sorry you’ve done that, Seneca. But there’s the Catholic Church and then there’s the Catholic Church. I suppose it is like being an American. I know a lot of what I guess I would call old-fashioned Americans. Patriotic, optimistic, all that characterized the “national character” for 200 years. Then again there is a host, simply hordes, of “Americans” like I’ve never seen before — or well, I guess they appeared in the ’60s, with their forerunners Communists back before WWII. They grown and grown until they seem to have swamped the ship of state. Same in the Catholic Church. And one deals with it the same, voting with one’s feet, in Comrade Lenin’s famous phrase. Only I don’t walk away from being American; I just associate with those who exhibit the old-fashioned American spirit. Same with the Church. When I lived in Ohio, I ended up driving 45 minutes or more (freeway almost all the way) to a solid Catholic parish, then segued over to a parish where they offered the Traditional Latin Mass. Now, currently residing in Europe (for my sins), I have done the same thing, though the country parish closest to me is open and pretty traditional in their own way. Perhaps it is like the saying of Our Lord, “Seek, and ye will find.” We have to keep seeking. Otherwise, as your own example of your local church and your own story reveals, the Vatican II Catholic Church has been hollowing out (“hallowing” out?) for the past 60 years and will — indeed, it is — collapsing. It’s kept afloat by government money for “refugees” but few will be left to attend it after all this lockdown nonsense passes away — if it does ever end. Whatever else turns out to be true, the True Church does exist, and sometimes we just have to travel to the catacombs to find it. RC 1 Reply Seneca the Elder March 30, 2021 8:13 am Reply to Raghn Crow Thanks for your comment. I have found more of the true spirit of Christ in my AA groups than in any church. I often think that God speaks through the sick and suffering alcoholics who often say things that seem Divinely inspired. I have heard it said that religion is for those who don’t want to go to hell and spirituality is for those who’ve been there. 0 Reply TN Freeper March 30, 2021 6:11 am I bet a month’s salary the church gets its covid information from left wing cable channels. It works great. As for anyone listed in the bulletin pray list as suffering from Covid, I don’t know if they watch from home (a 3rd option); go to early service; or go to the later service. One thing is certain. We are all going to get sick over something from time to time and those evil enough to keep the Covid Fear going and preaching to wear a mask, can also be the one in charge of spreading the disease from a canister labeled “hazardous material” and can and will do it when the need to control the sheep comes. We know the virus was populated by evil people and chemical warfare has been used for a long long time! Fight evil, not each other. 1 Reply SAT0422 March 30, 2021 7:56 am Catholic democrats run naked around us. They don’t always think like the rest of the population. I learned that the hard way in my 43 years working in education and by sending my child to a Catholic for 1st – 3rd grade. After that, we joined with common sense a LCMS Lutheran Church. We have never looked back. Its used by the left to keep people apart. If you go to a church and it requires a mask you can either put on a mask or get another church. My daughter and I go out to shop sometimes. I wear a mask because she wants me too. If someone doesn’t have a mask on she complains but I respond its their choice. She tries to tell me it puts me in danger but I say why I have a mask on. She has no reply. God make us one. One person one temple. Isn’t not wearing a mask causing division too? We’re not here to make others do what we want but to do what we believe God would want. Get another church or wear a mask. Its your choice. Make it a good one that would make God smile. 0 Reply Ellis Wyatt March 30, 2021 8:08 am People who are worried should get the shot, people who are not should not get the shot. If the shot is what it is advertised to be then those who get it have little to worry about, just like the flu shot. With effective therapeutics and a “vaccine” for the China virus available, the days of masks, social distancing, and lockdowns are over. 0 Reply Torchmanner March 30, 2021 8:08 am We attended church EVERY Sunday and most will never get a ‘vaccine.’ 1 Reply scrap1ron March 30, 2021 8:18 am “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:17-19 Only two commandments are necessary – to love God and to love one’s neighbor as oneself.
