    HANDY STORY

    Edward Handy:
Edward, the sixth child, was born in Essa Twp. Simcoe County in 1836-37
and died February 18, 1872 in Sunnidale Twp. Simcoe County.

He married Marion Ruthven, farmed in Sunnidale Twp. and had four children.

Let us now finish the story of the land Charles bought in Sunnidale Twp. for the sum of $250.00 in 1862.

Ben Handy bought the south 50 for $500.00 and sold it again for $1,000.00.

Now Charles Handy sold the north 50 to Edward Handy in 1866 for $1,050.00 holding a mortgage for $192.00 at 6% interest.

In 1870, Edward Handy had to go to his father for another mortgage of $285.73
and at the interest rate of 10%.

That's our Charles Handy; buying land for $250.00
and selling it within four years for the total of $1,550.00.

Ben Handy didn't do too badly either.

Edward Handy was a very athletic type of person.

The family were on their way home on a cold day
and Edward Handy had one of the children on his knee.
When they came to the gate, he set the child down and jumped out of the buggy
    and twisted his knee.
    Gangrene set in.
He had two or three operations or amputations at his home but they could not save him.
(The Harvest Table, along with the set of original handmade chairs,
which are NOW in the home of Susan Lynne Schwenger,
daughter of Lynda Handy- Schwenger, wife of Murray Bruce Schwenger
    - Lynda is the daughter of Viola Mae Drury-Handy,
    and, James Edward Handy Jr.
son of James Handy Sr & Ida Eva Morton Russell-Handy

    James Handy Sr.
is the son of Edward Handy & Marion Ruthven-Handy-Satchell

    - and, it was this table, where they laid Edward Handy (husband of
Marion Ruthven-Handy-Satchell, to cut off his leg,

this table originally belonged to Handy / and, Mary Gibbon (not gibbons) last name is reg'd wrong
JUST LIKE HANDY IS BRACCA/IRELAND not uk / english
    and, Gibbon was Wales/Welsh

The table is the first harvest table in sunnidale township (i was told)
    dated back to approx 1825

Edward Handy died at the age of 36
and is buried in a little rundown rural cemetery in Sunnidale Township,
    near Barrie, Ontario.

After the death of Edward, Marion married Tom Satchell or Satchel.

This did not go well with Charles Handy or the rest of the family.

The farm had to be sold to support the children.

Charles "forgave" the mortgages above, but there was no mention of Edward's family in Charles' will.

Julius, the eldest son, farmed around the Sunnidale Twp. area until most of his family were fully grown,
then on the suggestion of one of the boys, they moved to Plenty, Saskatchewan.

    Two daughters remained in Ontario.

Isabella lost her first husband Bill Ransberry, very mysteriously.

when researching i found two names willam Ransburg & Bill Ransberry
but, the children carry the last name Ransberry !!!

The grandchildren say that he and a friend spent the winters in the bush
and when they were on their way home, they met with foul play.

    Their bodies were never found.

    Isabella then married Bill Hooper.

Isabella's descendents can be found from Orono to Hamilton, Port Colborne and Sault Ste. Marie.

Henry never married, spent most of his life as a farmhand at various farms.

James married Ida Eva Morton Russell and spent some time in the bush in Michigan
and on a farm in North Dakota.

They returned to farm in the Midhurst-Dalston area of Simcoe County.
