BUT, HERE IS JAMES FAMILY

 

Here's our family tree going back to AD 1000.
Before that, it appears that Leofwine
came over from what is now southern Norway
from an area called Roedven,
which the locals say has "Scottish connections."

There is a famous stave church there from the 1100s,
too late for Leofwine and sons
who appear to be Norse (Viking) pagans.

Going back to AD 1000, the height of Viking raids
all over Europe, even as far East as Constantinople
(now Istanbul,Turkey) the capital of the fading Byzantine empire.

Our first identifiable ancestor,
Leofwine, came ashore at Northumbria (an area S. of Edinburgh,
which was,300 years earlier, the home area of the Venerable Bede,
father of English history).

From there the clan (or family) traveled NW to Crawford,
and thence to the Perth area.

In the late 1500s the Ruthven clan was powerful enough
to be 4th in line to the throne.

The codes after the names indicate unique persons.

To my knowledge, this is the most thorough genealogy
produced for the early Ruthvens.

The patrilinear generations indicate
(tracking back from some blind alleys of lines that extinguished
that my son, Jon Michael, is the 30th generation direct descendant from Leofwine
